about

When I uploaded this version to both YouTube and SoundCloud, it got really positive reception, so I guess I'll upload this version, too.

So the other day, on Trance.fm, I listened to this awesome trance track, "Open The Floodgates", by the trance duo Blacklisted. When I visited Beatport for that track, I found out that there are actually two versions: the "Uplifting Mix" which is what I've heard which has that ordinary uplifting synth melody release, and the "Original Mix" which replaced the release section with those driving repetitive acidlines "drop" section instead. It kinda gave me the inspiration to do this alternative mix.

"State of Emergency" is perhaps the darkest trance music I've produced so far. This alternative mix made it even darker by replacing the usual climatic release section with a more acid-laden "drop" section instead. I will have to admit, I HATE this version. I actually wrote a rant before about how this recent way of producing trance music left me as a listener cheated, because the driving uplifting melody of the climatic release section is really the very reason why I love trance music so much. This repetitive acidic drop gave me the impression that the track skipped straight to a very long and boring outro. I was left unsatisfied.

Oh well... Guess that this style of trance music progression is not for me. Regardless, I noticed that some other people actually like it this way. I think I can tell why: there's quite a lot more energy going on when you have an acid synth dominating the track. You decide which version is better. Who knows, maybe you like this version better.
